One of the main challenges today, as this site is being created (November 2007) is probably the ability to provide individuals with the ability to control and exploit a number of personal data and artefacts that are distributed on a variety of services and networks. It is an issue of technologies (interoperability) as well as education (learn how to manage one's personal data).
Here are a number of challenges (TBD):
- continuity across learning episodes (moving from school to college then further of higher education, etc.)
- continuity across institutions (employment agencies, employer, training provider, awarding body, etc.)
- continuity across repositories and social networks (facebook, linkedin, employer's directory, etc.)
- Curriculum vitae interoperability
- Managing easily and meaningfully multiple ePortfolios
- Freedom of expression to express one's identity vs need for standardised / structured representation for computer interpretation
- Left brain vs right brain ePortfolios
