University of Zagreb, Faculty of Organization and Informatics

The Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) was founded in 1974 and became a member of the University of Zagreb in 1975 which is a research oriented university comprising 29 faculties, 3 art academies and 3 university centres. University enrols approximately 77 000 students at all study levels, and employs more than 5 700 research and teaching staff. FOI was the first faculty of the University of Zagreb to develop and implement an e-Learning and ePortfolio strategy. Faculty research staff comprises 41 professors and 56 research/teaching assistants. They are active in scientific, R&D and commercial projects at the national and international levels.

EPortfolio related work:

FOI was the first faculty within University of Zagreb that implemented ePortfolios in 2007. We have been using and validating ePortfolios successfully within our own course programmes, by introducing an ePortfolio software system and connecting it to the existing e-learning infrastructure. Starting from next academic year, ePortfolios will become mandatory for post-graduate students as well as for all research staff. For that purpose FOI has developed a personal progress file that will be implemented in ePortfolio for monitoring and benchmarking the faculty as a whole, research staff, and post-graduate students between themselves.

So far, FOI has financed all ePortfolio projects by itself. Those projects covered implementation of ePortfolio at the faculty level, modifying the curriculum in a way that ePortfolios are studied and used as a part of regular classes, research cooperation with several Universities such as Carlow University, Siberian Federal University, Penn State University, University in Ljubljana, and others in order to explore the effects of ePortfolio on higher education, its benefits and critical factors of its successful implementation. All that work resulted in several dozen research papers, book chapters and networks with other ePortfolio experts and practitioners.
